Ce projet de recherche expose la réalité d’une population transfrontalière à l’identité réifiée, produit de la mobilité humaine à laquelle elle a été exposée. Depuis les années 1970, la population transfrontalière des 'brasiguayos' a migré du territoire brésilien vers le territoire paraguayen à la recherche de meilleures opportunités économiques et productives. Compte tenu de l’ouverture de la frontière paraguayenne, les migrants brésiliens ont participé à l’achat et à la vente de terres destinées à la production agricole. Les chiffres concernant le nombre de personnes entrées dans le pays ne sont pas exacts, mais on estime qu’environ 300 000 Brésiliens sont venus occuper la zone frontalière, où l’État n’exerçait pas un contrôle total. Dans les conditions de la commercialisation des terres, la société paraguayenne s’est montrée réticente à l’égard des néo-colonisateurs, ce qui a donné lieu à des révoltes, des pillages, des protestations et des demandes adressées à l’État pour récupérer les terres qui leur avaient historiquement appartenu. Avec l’arrivée du XXIe siècle, les affrontements contre les brasiguayos se sont intensifiés.
