Dieses Forschungsprojekt zeigt die Realität einer grenzüberschreitenden Bevölkerung mit einer verdinglichten Identität auf, die ein Produkt der menschlichen Mobilität ist, der sie ausgesetzt war. Die grenzüberschreitende Bevölkerung der 'brasiguayos' wanderte seit den 1970er Jahren auf der Suche nach besseren wirtschaftlichen und produktiven Möglichkeiten vom brasilianischen auf das paraguayische Territorium ein. Angesichts der Öffnung der paraguayischen Grenze beteiligten sich die brasilianisch-brasilianischen Migranten am Kauf und Verkauf von Land für die landwirtschaftliche Produktion. Es gibt keine genauen Zahlen darüber, wie viele Menschen in das Land kamen, aber man schätzt, dass etwa 300.000 Brasilianer in das Grenzgebiet kamen, das der Staat nicht vollständig kontrollieren konnte. Unter den Bedingungen der Kommerzialisierung von Land zeigte sich die paraguayische Gesellschaft gegenüber den Neokolonisatoren zurückhaltend, was zu Revolten, Plünderungen, Protesten und Forderungen an den Staat nach Rückgabe des Landes, das ihnen historisch gehörte, führte. Mit dem Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts haben sich die Auseinandersetzungen mit den Brasiguayos verschärft.
