La libertà accademica per i docenti di tutto il mondo è considerata la via principale per promuovere la ricerca intellettuale e il progresso dell’istruzione. L’Associazione americana dei professori universitari (AAUP) negli Stati Uniti merita elogi e grande rispetto per aver assunto un ruolo di primo piano nella promozione e nella difesa di questo prezioso aspetto dell’istruzione (la libertà accademica). In quanto persona nata e cresciuta in un paese del terzo mondo, sono sconcertato nello scoprire che gruppi di interesse e lobby possano facilmente usare la loro influenza economica e politica per bloccare o licenziare un professore da un’università negli Stati Uniti, il campione mondiale della democrazia. È mia speranza che il popolo americano e i popoli di altri paesi riescano a limitare o impedire che gruppi di interesse e lobby interferiscano nella libera ricerca della conoscenza (libertà accademica).
