La biodiversité est l’un des piliers essentiels du développement durable et représente la richesse biologique d’un pays. L’Inde fait partie des douze pays les plus riches en biodiversité de la planète, abritant un nombre considérable d’espèces d’insectes, parmi lesquelles les lépidoptères, et en particulier les papillons de nuit, constituent un groupe dominant et fascinant. Le nord du Maharashtra présente également une grande diversité faunistique ; le présent ouvrage contribue à mettre en lumière certains aspects de la diversité de la faune des papillons de nuit de cette région, ce qui n’avait pas été fait auparavant. Cet ouvrage ne se limite pas à l’identification des papillons de nuit, mais fournit également des informations sur les méthodes permettant de mener des études de diversité pour ces insectes. Il propose pour la première fois un catalogue de la faune des papillons de nuit du nord du Maharashtra et jette les bases d’une recherche systématique dans ce domaine. Au total, 405 espèces de papillons de nuit appartenant à 23 familles ont été identifiées et illustrées par des images.
