Le cancer est la deuxième cause de décès dans le monde. Les traitements disponibles présentent un certain nombre de limites, telles que des effets secondaires et une faible efficacité. Dans la recherche de nouveaux traitements, les mitochondries ont été mises en évidence comme une cible prometteuse pour le traitement du cancer en raison de l’existence d’une relation importante entre le dysfonctionnement des mitochondries et la tumorigénèse. On a donc observé ces dernières années une augmentation du nombre d’études s’intéressant aux composés agissant sur les cibles mitochondriales ( mitocans ) en tant qu’alternative pour le traitement du cancer. L’objectif de cette revue narrative était de décrire les progrès réalisés dans la thérapie du cancer avec l’émergence des médicaments mitochondriaux.
