Im Gegensatz zur bisherigen Ganztagsschulforschung werden in diesem Band die Modernisierungsprozesse in den sich entwickelnden Ganztagsschulen in ihren pädagogischen Angeboten aufgezeigt. Damit geht diese Studie weit über die bisherige Forschung hinaus. Gleichzeitig wird ein innovativen Ansatz in der qualitativen Schul- und Unterrichtsforschung vorgelegt, der auf einem neuen Konzept der Lernkultur basiert. Die beobachteten und hier beschriebenen schulischen Modernisierungsprozesse bedeuten eine Grenzverschiebung des Schulischen durch verschiedene Formen lernkultureller „Öffnung' - verstanden als gleichzeitig ablaufende Prozesse der Individualisierung und Formalisierung pädagogischer Angebote.
