L’apprentissage d’autres cultures et la valorisation de l’une d’entre elles sont connus sous le nom d’éducation populaire. Elle se concentre sur les connaissances dérivées des coutumes locales. Elle valorise l’expérience pratique, l’expertise régionale et l’importance culturelle. Sa poésie agit comme un moyen d’éducation populaire, transmettant la connaissance, l’éthique et la conscience historique sous une forme organique à la population rurale. En transmettant la connaissance, la morale et la conscience historique de manière organique à la population rurale, sa poésie sert d’outil d’éducation populaire. Ses poèmes traitent de la pauvreté, de la discrimination des castes, des droits des femmes, de la préservation de l’environnement et de la spiritualité. Nag a commencé à écrire des poèmes en langue kosali, également appelée sambalpuri, un dialecte de l’ouest de l’Odisha souvent ignoré dans la littérature populaire. Haldhar Nag a composé et chanté plusieurs lokgeet (chansons folkloriques) telles que Dal Khai, Mayela Jada, Krusna Guru, et d’autres. En 1990, deux étudiants de l’université G.M. ont pris l’initiative de promouvoir la poésie. Ils collectaient de l’argent et organisaient des séances de récitation de poèmes le dernier dimanche de chaque mois, en affichant les poèmes sur les murs publics. Inspirés par leur passion, ils ont organisé un Kabi Sammelani dans leur localité.
