La compréhension des effets du processus d’ouverture commerciale et de son impact sur l’économie du Nordeste ne peut se faire qu’en l’analysant dans le contexte de l’insertion subordonnée de l’économie nationale dans l’économie internationale, en particulier après les années 1980. Toutefois, il est tout aussi important de passer en revue l’histoire de la formation économique du complexe du Nord-Est afin d’identifier les rôles joués par la région dans le processus d’accumulation et de reproduction du capital national et le rôle joué par ses agents sociaux par rapport à l’appropriation du surplus accumulé. Pour cette raison, cet article se penchera brièvement sur les premiers pas de l’économie du Nord-Est, puis analysera son processus d’expansion économique, généré par la croissance du secteur industriel, et sa récente dynamique d’industrialisation après le processus d’ouverture commerciale et financière de l’économie brésilienne au cours de la période 1991-2011.
