En el combate con su adversario es donde el practicante de aikido se reconoce, conoce y vive; se comprende por ello que el aikido no es solamente un arte marcial. El alumno no debe adquirir únicamente la técnica de combate, también debe abrir la mente a conceptos desconocidos hasta ahora para él: en realidad aikido deriva de la unión de tres palabras: «camino» «armonía» y «energía». Después de las indispensables nociones sobre indumentaria ya se puede comenzar: uno se da cuenta rápidamente de que no es ni el dueño absoluto de su cuerpo ni su esclavo. Un texto claro y detallado, escrito por un estudioso apasionado y practicante de aikido será su guía; con numerosas fotografías a las que se hace continua referencia en el texto y que ponen de relieve las características de los movimientos y su tratamiento progresivo. Fabio Ceresa practica aikido desde 1989, siguiendo a varios maestros y profundizando así sus conocimientos en los diversos estilos. Actualmente estudia en la A. S. Yamato Milano con el maestro Guglielmo Masetti.
