Das Buch befasst sich mit zentralen Fragen der Prognose, der Stabilität und des Wandels in der Entwicklung vom Jugend- ins Erwachsenenalter. Vorgestellt werden zentrale Ergebnisse zur beruflichen, sozialen, kulturellen und gesundheitlichen Entwicklung von über 1500 Personen, die vom 12. bis zum 35. Lebensjahr im Rahmen der LifE-Studie (Lebensverläufe ins frühe Erwachsenenalter), einer der längsten prospektiven Entwicklungsstudien im deutschsprachigen Raum, untersucht wurden. Gemessen am überaus langen Zeitraum ergeben sich überraschende Hinweise auf die Vorhersagekraft und die Stabilität von Erfahrungen und Orientierungen aus dem Jugendalter.
