Le livre traite des causes et des ramifications du conflit politique en Côte d’Ivoire de 2002 à 2009. L’histoire récente de l’Afrique de l’Ouest a montré que le Nigeria, le Tchad, le Liberia, la Sierra Leone et maintenant la Côte d’Ivoire ont eu leur part de cette situation difficile. La Côte d’Ivoire a fait preuve d’une remarquable stabilité politique après son indépendance de la France en 1960 jusqu’à la fin de l’année 1999. L’instabilité politique en Côte d’Ivoire a commencé après la mort de Felix Houphouet Boigny en 1993, le premier président post-indépendant du pays. À partir de 1999, la corruption et la mauvaise gestion du gouvernement ont conduit le pays dans une situation calculée de piège de l’aide étrangère. Le pays a connu son premier coup d’État militaire en décembre 1999 sous la direction du général Guei. L’étude a révélé que les causes du conflit étaient : la concurrence pour des ressources rares, la mauvaise gouvernance, l’incitation par les médias, la xénophobie, la lutte incessante pour le pouvoir politique et la prolifération d’armes à feu de petit calibre dans le pays. Parmi les conséquences du conflit, on peut citer les violations des droits de l’homme, la destruction de biens, y compris les locaux des Nations unies, et le déplacement de personnes à l’intérieur et à l’extérieur du pays.
