Les eaux du bassin du fleuve sont la convoitise des quelques pays voisins en situation de déficit hydrique, c’est le cas de l’assèchement du lac Tchad, conséquences de plusieurs facteurs qui ces sont conjugués notamment : le réchauffement climatique ; les irrigations incontrôlées, la construction de plusieurs barrages sur les principaux cours d’eaux qui, alimente ledit lac, la démographie galopante dans cette zone. Plusieurs projets sont ainsi imaginés en vue de soutirer les eaux du bassin du fleuve Congo pour remettre le fleuve Tchad à flot. Néanmoins, ce souhait devra faire l’objet des quelques préalables qui se dressent comme obstacles face à ces sollicitations notamment ceux d’ordre environnemental, juridique et financier. En plus du fait que plusieurs experts congolais indiquent que l’endroit idéal serait à l’embouchure du fleuve Congo dans l’océan atlantique.
