Tutti hanno bisogno di un riparo, di un luogo sicuro e di un senso di appartenenza che possano chiamare casa. Sebbene il concetto di casa vari notevolmente da cultura a cultura, le società stabili offrono solitamente alle persone una casa e un luogo in cui vivere. Tuttavia, nelle società sconvolte da guerre e altri eventi, queste 'case' che offrono non solo un riparo, ma anche un senso di appartenenza e di identità, possono facilmente essere distrutte. La mia ricerca per la tesi di laurea magistrale è nata dalla mia esperienza a Zagabria, in Croazia. In questo progetto ho esplorato il significato della casa come legame con un luogo o un significato particolare attraverso diverse prospettive culturali. Ho anche osservato le implicazioni del riuscire a ricreare la casa in un nuovo ambiente. Ho intervistato croati, italiani e tedeschi che sono emigrati e si sono stabiliti nella Bay Area di San Francisco, nonché due donne americane 'native' della Bay Area. Dedico questo progetto a tutti voi che avete nel cuore il desiderio di una casa.
