En remontant à contre-courant de l’histoire, ce voyage hors temps dans les dédales de la mémoire d’Oran d’autrefois etme fiant à celle encore conservée des anciennes générations, aux lectures d’ouvrages dispersés, aux souvenirs intenses d’enfance, et aux informations glanées ici et là, auprès des anciennes familles oranaises j’ai tenté à partir d’une mémoire exhumée tracer au mieux et à grands traits ce que fut l’histoire et les traditions vestimentaires de cette ville, quitte à parfois malmener la concordance des temps ou à mêler les époques, tant cessouvenirs ineffables, ineffaçables du temps passérestent encore vivaces ..., ce vaste sujet devait m’imposer des limites arbitraires en pro-portion de sa richesse. Cetteapproche est en fait solidaire d’une entreprise plus vaste encore, à savoir la réhabilitation de la mémoire collective et la connaissance du vêtement traditionnel oranais pour les généra-tions qui en ignorent l’essentiel, tout un patrimoine reste à in-ventorier, à répertorier qu’il y a lieu de faire connaître pour être à même de le protéger des aléas du temps.
