Depuis plusieurs décennies, la recherche s’intéresse à la question de savoir si les bilingues et les monolingues diffèrent dans leurs capacités linguistiques et cognitives. Il y a environ 50 ans, on pensait qu’il était dangereux d’exposer les enfants à plus d’une langue. Cependant, des études récentes montrent que les enfants bilingues ont des avantages en matière de développement cognitif par rapport aux enfants monolingues. Les enfants bilingues surpassent les enfants monolingues, entre autres, dans les tâches de contrôle exécutif. Ce travail a examiné dans quelle mesure la similitude entre les deux langues parlées par un enfant bilingue a une influence sur le contrôle exécutif.
