Por más de medio siglo, las bordadoras de Ninhue, Chile, han bordado escenas de la vida rural en el “pueblo protegido por los vientos”, ubicado entre Santiago y Concepción. Sus obras se han convertido en una de las expresiones más evocadoras del arte popular chileno.El libro relata cómo, en 1971, la experta en bordados Carmen Benavente regresa a Chile en medio de un clima de tensión política y decide enseñar a las mujeres de Ninhue una técnica de bordado con lana. A partir de esa iniciativa surge una comunidad de artesanas que logra desarrollar su creatividad y generar ingresos mediante la comercialización de sus trabajos.La obra narra la historia social, económica y artística de estas mujeres, mostrando cómo su talento y perseverancia les permitió posicionar su arte y hacerlo conocido dentro y fuera del país. 10
