L’obiettivo della ricerca è sviluppare il progetto architettonico preliminare di un penitenziario di medie dimensioni per detenuti maschi anziani, che soddisfi i destinatari, la legislazione, i regolamenti e il sovraffollamento delle carceri attuali. In cui l’architettura lavora sulla personalità dei detenuti nel processo di reinserimento nella società, con attuazione nella città di Xanxerê. Lo studio è stato condotto sotto forma di ricerca bibliografica descrittiva e il metodo utilizzato è stato quello deduttivo, basato sull’analisi di casi di studio. A tal fine, è stato studiato l’ambito di localizzazione del progetto e la necessità di un penitenziario che serva la regione dell’Associazione dei Comuni dell’Alto Irani. Si è ritenuto che l’attuale carcere necessiti di un supporto per soddisfare la domanda, migliorando così la qualità del sistema di esecuzione penale nella regione occidentale dello Stato di Santa Catarina, giustificando la necessità di questo progetto. Per valutare la fattibilità dell’installazione del carcere, sono stati presi in considerazione l’area circostante, il sistema stradale e le infrastrutture, nonché i vincoli climatici, fisici e legali, ed è stato effettuato un sopralluogo per valutare la posizione.
