L’agriculture contractuelle a été mise en œuvre en Thaïlande dans le cadre du programme de coopération agro-industrielle ACMECS (Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekhong Economic Cooperation Strategy), anciennement appelé ECS (Economic Corridor Strategy), visant à développer un corridor économique prioritaire (PRC). Les membres comprennent la Thaïlande, le Laos, le Cambodge et le Vietnam. L’objectif de ce programme est de développer l’emploi, d’augmenter les revenus, de développer la région et de transférer des technologies aux membres de l’ACMECS, notamment le Laos, le Cambodge et la Birmanie.
