Stranamente, lo studio della musica cantautoriale in chiave sociologica è piuttosto raro, perché essa viene considerata spesso un fenomeno superficiale e di difficile analisi con i tradizionali strumenti inerenti le discipline sociologiche. Ignorare però uno dei linguaggi più diffusi e universali instauratosi nel mondo moderno significa ignorare un im­portante fenomeno culturale con capacità di conservare il tempo e le sue trasformazioni. In tale ottica questo lavoro tenta di valorizzare l’analisi sociologica della musica italiana. La ricerca testuale si concentra su Vasco Rossi, Antonello Venditti e Edoardo Bennato e ha dunque l’obiettivo di scoprire e riportare i le­gami esistenti tra la musica dei suddetti cantautori e la società italiana degli ultimi trent’anni del secolo passato. In questa prospettiva il focus è posto su tre tematiche caratterizzanti la società italiana di allora: sui rapporti di coppia alla luce dell’emancipazione femminile, sui conflitti generazionali a partire dal ’68 e i successivi anni di edonismo e relativo rifugio nel privato e infine sulla critica sociale contro il sistema e gli individui della società italiana della postmodernità.
