La Rumba Congolaise qui émerge dans les années 1930 à Brazzaville et Léopoldville est le résultat d’un aller-retour entre l’Afrique et les Caraïbes en général, et le Stanley Pool et Cuba en particulier. La rumba congolaise s’est très vite affirmée comme identité artistique des deux Congo. Dans la perspective de son inscription sur la liste représentative du patrimoine culturel immatériel de l’humanité, des chercheurs ont voulu revisiter le champ polysémique de la rumba congolaise en dégageant une interrogation majeure : comment cette musique urbaine est-elle devenue, en quelques quatre-vingts ans, un art populaire essentiel dont l’identité et l’originalité se sont imposées, au milieu d’autres courants artistiques, à travers la planète ? Cet ouvrage explore et ouvre des pistes nouvelles de réflexion sur l’histoire, la sociologie, l’économie et l’écriture de cette production sociale transnationale.
