La restitution correcte et précise des faits est une caractéristique fondamentale de la qualité du journalisme, y compris dans la rubrique locale. Quel est le degré d’exactitude factuelle des journalistes à une époque où de nombreuses rédactions réduisent leurs effectifs ? Combien d’erreurs se glissent dans les reportages ? Et quelle est l’incidence de ces erreurs sur la crédibilité d’un article ? Sur l’ensemble du journal ? L’auteur explore ces questions dans cet ouvrage. Il applique pour cela la méthode de recherche sur l’exactitude développée par Mitchell V. Charnley, qui a popularisé cette technique en 1936. Il examine la qualité des sections locales de trois journaux différents de la région de Bavière orientale en termes d’exactitude, de précision et d’absence d’erreurs, c’est-à-dire d’accuracy. Dans le cadre de la recherche dite accuracy , les personnes mentionnées dans un texte journalistique sont confrontées à ce qui est écrit à leur sujet et sur les sujets qu’elles connaissent bien, et doivent évaluer dans quelle mesure l’auteur a rendu compte correctement des faits.
