Questo lavoro si propone di esplorare il mondo dei giochi elettronici, analizzando come e perché nel corso degli anni siano diventati uno strumento di marketing con un approccio al campo della pubblicità e della propaganda, e intrinsecamente la loro diffusione culturale. Descrive inoltre l’evoluzione dei videogiochi, sottolineando il fatto che essi comunicano in modo più efficace con i consumatori di oggi che, grazie ai continui progressi tecnologici, sono sempre più esigenti, segmentati e inseriti come elementi attivi nel processo di comunicazione. Il lavoro presenta le varie tecniche esistenti nel campo della pubblicità utilizzate per veicolare un annuncio nell’universo virtuale dei giochi elettronici, come gli Advergame, il Product Placement, gli ARG e la tecnica che verrà approfondita in questo lavoro, l’In-Game Advertising. Verranno citati alcuni dei primi esempi di in-game advertising fino ai giorni nostri, oltre allo studio di un gioco in particolare (Pro Evolution Soccer 2017), per meglio chiarirne l’applicabilità e riflettere sui ritorni ottenuti dall’utilizzo di questa strategia, che sta diventando sempre più importante.
