Il volume raccoglie due saggi di Birgitta Fuchs e di Sandra Chistolini, rispettivamente interessati alla riflessione sulla teoria della formazione e sulla prospettiva storico-comparativa di Giambattista Vico. Gli studi, presentati al 24° Congresso della Deutsche Gesellschaft für Erziehungswissenschaft, presso l’Università Humboldt di Berlino, nella primavera del 2014, sono stati parte integrante del Simposio intitolato 'Tradition und Moderne in der Bildungs- und Kulturtheorie Giambattista Vicos/Tradizione e modernità nella teoria della formazione e della cultura di Giambattista Vico', condotto da Winfried Böhm, professore emerito di Pedagogia dell’Università di Würzburg. Arricchisce questa pubblicazione l’edizione critica dello scritto del 1925 di Vincenzo Spaziante su 'Giambattista Vico pedagogista'. Completano il testo la VI Orazione inaugurale e il De nostri temporis studiorum ratione, in versione italiana. Il libro costituisce un invito a considerare il valore dello studio dei classici nella formazione dei docenti ed è destinato agli studenti universitari che si preparano all’insegnamento nella scuola.
