Il ruolo della morale laica nella situazione attuale della Tanzania è uno dei grandi temi da discutere, poiché i tanzaniani, come altri Paesi africani, sono società incentrate sulla religione. Secondo Thomas Hobbes, una società può vivere pacificamente senza l’idea di religione. Ciò è in contrasto con i cristiani del suo tempo, che ovviamente avrebbero una visione teistica, mentre Thomas Hobbes la considera atea. I cristiani hanno una visione dualista che distingue tra anima e corpo, mentre considerano Hobbes un materialista. I cristiani credevano anche nella libertà della volontà, nella libertà dell’anima e della mente, ma consideravano Thomas Hobbes un determinista che avrebbe ridotto la volontà a una sequenza di appetiti o a una sorta di cambiamento culturale. Quindi i cristiani hanno anche un’idea corporativa della società umana; considerano la società come un aspetto essenziale della natura umana, mentre considerano Thomas Hobbes come una visione profondamente individualista. D’altra parte, i cristiani sostengono la visione di una morale eterna e immutabile. Cioè esistevano alcuni principi morali basati sulla ragione di Dio che erano possibili per noi, in virtù della nostra ragione, per afferrare e comprendere la realtà morale.
