Esta obra aborda la concepción de la lectura y escritura desde una mirada neurolingüística del aprendizaje escolar. Es resultado de un proceso de investigación realizado para mejorar la inclusión escolar de niños y niñas con Síndrome de Down, cuyas edades oscilaron entre los 6 y 12 años de edad cronológica y quienes, a pesar de encontrarse integrados en escuelas públicas de Boyacá, Colombia, no se sentían parte de un proceso de ense­ñanza - aprendizaje dentro de la escuela. Por tanto, parte de la necesidad de enseñar competencias lectoes­criturales en los niños y niñas participantes en este estu­dio, mediante la implementación de la comunicación aumentativa y alternativa, como método que les facilitó la adquisición del símbolo lectoescrito.Ofrece un enfoque metodológico cuyos resultados pueden ser de suma utilidad a la comunidad académica colombiana.  10
