Este libro fue escrito en un lapso de veinte años. Primera parte: 1569. Segunda parte: 1578. Tercera parte: 1589. Alonso de Ercilla participó en Chile como soldado en la Guerra de Arauco. La tradición incluso cuenta que escribía fragmentos en condiciones precarias durante la campaña, utilizando materiales que tenía a mano. Dos mundos chocan con furia. Españoles y araucanos se enfrentan en una guerra de sangre, honor y resistencia. Guerreros legendarios como Lautaro, Caupolicán, Colocolo y Tucapel les hacen frente a los invasores. Admirado por el propio Cervantes, Alonso de Ercilla nos regala una historia escrita a sangre y fuego. ALONSO DE ERCILLA. Nació en Madrid el 7 de agosto de 1533 y falleció en Ocaña, Toledo, el 28 de noviembre de 1594. Poeta y soldado español. Su única obra es La Araucana.
