Fremdsprachige Elemente prägen zunehmend den Alltag strafrechtlicher Verfahren. Die Gründe dafür sind vielfältig: Durchlässigere Binnengrenzen innerhalb Europas, globale Flucht- und Migrationsbewegungen, die Digitalisierung sowie internationale wirtschaftliche Verflechtungen. All das führt dazu, dass Gerichte und Strafverfolgungsbehörden immer häufiger vor Sprachbarrieren stehen. Dies betrifft nicht nur Verfahren gegen nicht deutschsprachige Beschuldigte, sondern ebenso fremdsprachige Beweismittel und internationale Ermittlungsmaßnahmen. Gleichzeitig ist die Strafjustiz mit begrenzten finanziellen und personellen Ressourcen konfrontiert.   Das Buch untersucht die aktuellen Rahmenbedingungen der Translation im Strafverfahren – von der Kommunikation mit sprachunkundigen Verfahrensbeteiligten bis hin zur Verarbeitung fremdsprachiger Beweise und der Unterstützung bei Ermittlungsmaßnahmen. Analysiert werden bestehende Strukturen, rechtliche Anforderungen und praktische Defizite. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, ob und unter welchen Voraussetzungen Anwendungen Künstlicher Intelligenz in diesen Konstellationen eine rechtssichere Unterstützung bieten können. Die Arbeit zeigt Chancen und Grenzen moderner Technologien auf und beleuchtet, welche Bedeutung KI künftig für die Gestaltung effizienter und zugleich rechtsstaatlich abgesicherter Strafverfahren haben kann.
