Niniejsza praca ma na celu omówienie powstania Centrum Dokumentacji Filmowej Paraíba (NUDOC) w kontekście „modernizacji' wynikającej z rozszerzenia polityki ekspansji Federalnego Uniwersytetu Paraíba, która sprzyjała rozwojowi przestrzeni badawczych i intelektualnej produkcji związanych z refleksją i interwencją w rzeczywistość regionalną. NUDOC dało impuls do produkcji filmowej i stało się ważnym ośrodkiem kształcenia intelektualnego i technicznego dla wielu filmowców, którzy do dziś pozostają aktywni. Staramy się również wskazać kierunki tej produkcji filmowej, zwracając uwagę na krytykę, jaką wywołały one w odniesieniu do opcji ideologicznych i estetycznych przyjętych w omawianym kontekście. Analizujemy niektóre filmy wyprodukowane przez Centrum, odnosząc je do pojęcia kultury historycznej, wychodząc z założenia, że relacje ustanowione przez produkcję filmową uczestniczą w tworzeniu kultur, potwierdzając lub odrzucając hegemoniczne perspektywy obecne w strukturze społeczeństwa.
