Kormak, An Icelandic Romance Of The Tenth Century: In Six Cantos (1861) is a book written by William Leighton. The story is set in the 10th century in Iceland and revolves around the protagonist Kormak, a warrior and poet. The book is divided into six cantos, each of which tells a different part of Kormak’s story. The first canto introduces Kormak and his love interest, Steingerd. Kormak is sent on a mission to retrieve a stolen sword, and he and Steingerd are separated. The second canto sees Kormak battling a giant and winning the sword. The third canto sees Kormak reunited with Steingerd, but their happiness is short-lived as they are attacked by enemies. The fourth canto sees Kormak being exiled from his home and going on a journey, where he meets a wise old man who teaches him about life and love. The fifth canto sees Kormak returning home, where he is met with more challenges and battles. The final canto sees Kormak being reunited with Steingerd and living happily ever after.
