Inhaltsangabe:Zusammenfassung: Die Arbeit beschreibt die Konzeption und Umsetzung des Workflow-Managements. Es wird der Frage nachgegangen, ob und wieweit die Erwartungen an die Informationstechnologie bereits erfüllt werden und wie die Entwicklung in Zukunft potentiell aussehen wird. Des weiteren wird untersucht, ob und in welchem Ausmaß der Erfolg der Softwaresysteme mit der Modellierung und der Optimierung von Geschäftsprozessen korreliert. Auf den Stellenwert der Systeme für Business Process Reengineering Projekte wird explizit eingegangen. Workflow-Management-Systeme stehen mit Recht im Mittelpunkt der Diskussion um die Automatisierung der Geschäftsabläufe. Das Potential der Systeme ist groß und derzeit bei weitem noch nicht ausgeschöpft. Die signifikanten Abhängigkeiten der Prozessorientierung der Ablauforganisation und der Implementierung von Vorgangssteuerungssystemen werden herausgestellt. Für diesen Bereich, in dem bisher kaum Basisliteratur existiert, eignet sich diese Arbeit hervorragend, um zu einem generellen Überblick zu gelangen und darüber hinaus beinhaltet sie Hinweise auf sämtliche Literatur, die in diesem Zusammenhang relevant ist.
