Wartości praktyczne składają się z funkcji ochrony i schronienia, a wartości duchowe leżą w cechach, które przemawiają do naszej wrażliwości i motywują sui generis emocje. „Tworzenie miejsca' to proces wynikający z tego doświadczenia architektury, który poszukuje odpowiedzi na funkcje ludzkiego życia, utożsamiając zestaw zasad związanych z estetyczną przyjemnością postrzegania zbudowanej formy. Potrzeba rozgraniczenia koncepcji miejsca architektonicznego pojawia się w odpowiedzi na zdiagnozowany brak, kruche dziedzictwo postępu, które nie zawsze jest zgodne z wartościami strukturyzującymi kulturę. Kwestionowana jest nie metoda czy związana z nią wiedza techniczna, ale raczej znaczenie, jakiego nabiera poprzez ludzkie doświadczenie.
