Der elementarpädagogische Kontext hat bildungspolitisch gegenwärtig Hochkonjunktur. Ihm wird zugeschrieben, in besonderem Maße zum Abbau von Bildungsungleichheit in Deutschland beitragen zu können. Die vorliegende ethnografische Studie beansprucht, einen Beitrag zur empirischen Fundierung bislang eher programmatisch geführter Debatten zu leisten. Sie fragt danach, welche Bedeutung macht- und ungleichheitsrelevante Unterscheidungen in der frühen Kindheit haben. Mit einem poststrukturalistisch informierten praxis- und subjekttheoretischen Zugang werden interpersonale Praktiken von Kindern fokussiert. Als differenzrelevante Positionierungspraktiken werden sie dahingehend befragt, wie in ihnen Differenz (re-)produziert wird.
