Johann Most (1846 - 1906), bekannt auch als John Most, war ein sozialistischer Redakteur, Agitator und Politiker der Sozialdemokratischen Arbeiterpartei (SDAP), dann der Sozialistischen Arbeiterpartei Deutschlands (SAP), bevor er sich schließlich zum Anarchismus bekannte. Er war Herausgeber der Zeitschrift Freiheit. Während seiner Gefängnisstrafe fertigte Most einen populären Auszug aus dem Kapital von Karl Marx mit dem Namen Kapital und Arbeit, das nach seiner Entlassung in Chemnitz gedruckt und verbreitet wurde. So trug Most zur Popularisierung des Marxismus in Deutschland bei. Aus dem Buch: '...Der Stückarbeiter strengt, um seine Einnahme zu erhöhen, seine Kräfte bis zum äußersten an und strebt nach Verlängerung der Arbeitszeit, was aus gleichen Gründen, wie beim Zeitlohn, eine Lohnverringerung schließlich zur Folge hat. Die Arbeiter erarbeiten sich unter der Herrschaft des Stücklohnes Krankheiten und frühen Tod und sind am Ende noch schlimmer daran, als wenn sie bei Zeitlohn mäßiger arbeiten. Die Unkenntnis, welche die Arbeiter von den Gesetzen der kapitalistischen Produktionsweise haben, trägt die Hauptschuld daran.'
