José M. Alonso-Sed was born in Santa Clara, Cuba. During the 1960s he lived in the United States where he received a bachelors of arts degree from Whitworth College. Afterwards, he completed his Masters and PH.D. degrees in Canada, where he spent twenty years teaching Spanish at several universities. Since 1987 he lives in southern California and teaches at San Diego State University and other colleges. At the present time, he is a writer and a civil law paralegal. He has published a collection of stories entitled CONTÁZAR / DEDMONTONIANS (Montezuma Publishing, 2007). One of them, 'Leak', won at the Metrópolis Azul Literary Festival (Montreal, Canada, 2005). He also has a bilingual poetry book, DIALOGO DE DIFUNTOS (Dialogue for the Dead), 2010. This book purports to be a historical novel; however, the reader will immediately discover that it is none other than a political fantasy peppered with great nostalgia. Following the death of 'The Horse', the maximum leader of a Caribbean country, alumni of an old military academy in Jaimanitas (Cuba) gather to celebrate the arrival of the liberator to the island. While the new liberator initiates the destruction of the failed old socialist regime, the question arises as to whether you can open the doors to a true democracy in the island.
