Die Neuauflage dieses bekannten Buches zur Kanalcodierung gibt eine Einführung in die klassischen Gebiete der Codierungstheorie. Dabei werden sowohl Block- als auch Faltungscodes behandelt und die gängigen Verfahren dazu beschrieben. Die übersichtliche und geschlossene Darstellung dieses Teils eignet sich gut zum vorlesungsbegleitenden Studium (mit Übungsaufgaben). Der zweite Teil des Buches, die verallgemeinerte Codeverkettung und die codierte Modulation, wurde in der neuen Auflage umgestellt und erweitert. Beide Gebiete, die bisher wenig Eingang in Lehrbücher gefunden haben, werden darin grundlegend behandelt.
