Die Verabreichung von Arzneimitteln in den systemischen Kreislauf über die Haut hat in den letzten zehn Jahren großes Interesse geweckt, da transdermale Arzneimittelverabreichungssysteme viele Vorteile gegenüber konventionellen Darreichungsformen und oralen Systemen mit kontrollierter Freisetzung bieten, die nicht in der Lage sind, den hepatischen Erstmetabolismus zu vermeiden, die Häufigkeit der Verabreichung zu verringern, die gastrointestinalen Nebenwirkungen zu reduzieren und die Patientencompliance zu verbessern.
