Cet ouvrage est l'histoire d'une jeune fille, Jeanne d'Arc, qui se présenta au Dauphin Charles, en 1429, en se disant investie d'un rôle sans précédent, celui de rendre la pleine souveraineté à ce prince sur des territoires que le Valois avait à défendre ou à reconquérir face à l'envahisseur anglais. Cet ouvrage retrace la vie de cette figure héroïque, qui sut entrainer les soldats à des résultats inespérés. Elle aurait pu participer à l'oeuvre de reconquête mais son impatience la conduisit à se faire capturer par les Bourguignons et à être vendue aux Anglais. On lui donnera l'excuse de sa jeunesse.
