Manevi ahlaki ve ilahi gerçeklerin anlaşılmasında ağırlık, ya nas ve nakle veya akıl ve istidlale veyahut da keşf ve ilhama verilmektedir. İslam dünyasında nas ve nakle ağırlık verenler Selefiye hareketine, akıl ve istidlale ağırlık verenler kelam hareketine, keşf ve ilhama ağırlık verenler de tasavvuf hareketine kaynaklık etmişlerdir. İslam felsefesi bu üç hareketten de izler taşımakla beraber, akla birinci derecede önem vermiş ve naslarla kendisini bağımlı hissetmemiştir. İslam düşüncesinde nas ve nakil, bir insandaki hafızaya; akıl ve istidlal, muhakemeye; ilham ve sezgi, hisse benzetilebilir. Hafıza olmazsa düşünmenin, muhakeme olmazsa hafızanın, his olmazsa yaşamanın önemi yoktur. Elinizdeki eser bu noktalardan kalkarak İslam düşüncesinin boyutlarını tesbit ediyor.
