Tienen una superficie terrestre de aproximadamente 1.001 km², compuesta por 14 islas, incluidas São Tomé, Príncipe, Ilhéu das Rolas e Ilhéu Caroço. Al cierre de 2020, la población registraba alrededor de 219 mil habitantes. La capital São Tomé es la ciudad más grande del país.En los últimos años, el gobierno de Santo Tomé ha adoptado medidas proactivas para mejorar el entorno de inversión, atraer inversión extranjera, construir carreteras e infraestructura y desarrollar activamente la industria del turismo y la demanda de exploración petrolera en alta mar, lo que ayuda a mantener un crecimiento estable en la economía. Santo Tomé y Príncipe es un país agrícola cuyo principal cultivo es la producción de cacao, el 51 por ciento de la población del país se dedica a la producción agrícola, siendo los principales cultivos cacao, coco deshidratado, café y aceite de palma. Su ubicación privilegiada, más los maravillosos paisajes naturales, dotan al país de vastos recursos turísticos. Al mismo tiempo, la industria petrolera aún se encuentra en sus primeras etapas de desarrollo, y el país cuenta con recursos forestales, biológicos y pesqueros relativamente ricos. Según el 'Informe sobre las Inversiones en el Mundo 2021' publicado por la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre Comercio y Desarrollo (UNCTAD), señala que al cierre de 2020, Santo Tomé y Príncipe había atraído US$310 millones en stock de inversión extranjera directa.
