L’ingegneria genetica vegetale è uno dei campi di studio emergenti in cui le piante possono essere manipolate a livello genetico per il miglioramento dell’umanità. Questo campo della scienza ha una grande importanza per le industrie farmaceutiche, nutraceutiche, per la produzione agricola e molto altro ancora. La produzione di enzimi, proteine e persino la crescita delle piante possono essere regolate costruendo un vettore adatto. Il vettore include la sequenza regolatrice, cioè il promotore, per l’espressione ottimale del gene. Il livello di espressione del transgene/gene di interesse dipende dalla forza del promotore. L’architettura dell’elemento promotore può essere ridisegnata per modificare l’espressione del gene. Il razionale alla base dello sviluppo di tali promotori modificati risiede nell’idea che il trasferimento della sequenza di DNA a monte/elemento CIS che lega uno specifico fattore di trascrizione da un promotore a un promotore diverso contenente la sequenza TATA possa portare a un nuovo modello di regolazione o trascrizione. In questo libro gli autori hanno cercato di dare una breve idea dei vari promotori e delle modalità della loro ingegnerizzazione per il miglioramento della qualità dell’agricoltura.
