Durante os meus dois últimos anos na faculdade (2013-2015), fiquei intrigado com o volume de ficções pós-apocalípticas que bombardeavam a mídia americana. De histórias de amor com vampiros a apocalipses zumbis, parecia que uma maneira de começarmos a lidar com a devastação ambiental era fantasiando sobre o desastre de uma forma que o tornasse mais palatável ou, em alguns casos, divertido. Os meus estudos na Bates College despertaram o meu interesse pelo papel das crianças e sua inocência estereotipada nas obras ficcionais. Este artigo examina a interseção entre a imaginação juvenil e a tragédia ambiental fictícia, explorando a questão: Como podemos nos tornar nossas próprias Crianças Românticas? Ele incentiva o leitor a se envolver em uma introspecção criativa e a pensar ativamente sobre o seu próprio papel na atual crise ambiental.
