Las zonas de conflicto de Colombia han sido estudiadas desde múltiples perspectivas, sin embargo, hasta el momento no se ha investigado en profundidad la manera en que la violencia y la inseguridad han afectado la asociatividad de los productores rurales y sus organizaciones. A partir de una encuesta hecha a 742 productores rurales en las regiones de Magdalena Medio, Montes de María, Orinoquia, Huila y Patía, Inseguridad rural y asociatividad encuentra una clara relación entre la violencia objetiva, la percepción subjetiva de inseguridad y las formas asociativas rurales. Este libro muestra que los productores rurales se han asociado en distintas formas como una respuesta adaptativa a la inseguridad y la violencia. Combinando conceptos de teoría institucional, psicología social, nueva economía institucional y sociología, investiga las repercusiones de la violencia objetiva y de la percepción de inseguridad de los productores (campesinos y empresas) y la manera como organizan la producción y la comercialización. Por otra parte, explora la gran diversidad de alternativas híbridas de organización –entre ellas las cooperativas, las redes y algunas modalidades contractuales que estructuran su actividad– y profundiza en la relación entre la percepción de inseguridad y el capital social. De los resultados de Inseguridad rural y asociatividad se derivan importantes lecciones para la formulación de políticas públicas que apoyen el desarrollo rural de las regiones que han sufrido el conflicto. 10
