Lo scopo della ricerca che ha portato alla stesura di questo libro è stato quello di capire quale visione e quali immagini gli insegnanti EJA hanno/costruiscono sulle traiettorie scolastiche dei loro studenti e se ri-significano o meno le loro pratiche pedagogiche sulla base di questa visione. Nello specifico, abbiamo indagato il trattamento riservato agli studenti e, allo stesso modo, ai contenuti del curriculum, nonché i possibili tentativi di ricostruire la pratica educativa sulla base delle peculiarità portate da giovani e adulti. I dati emersi dall’indagine mostrano un cambiamento nelle concezioni che un tempo si avevano degli studenti, ovvero che si trattava di persone 'che non vogliono avere niente a che fare con la vita', ma questo non ha portato a cambiamenti nel trattamento dei contenuti, che a loro volta continuano a essere insegnati con una configurazione che allude ad altre pratiche didattiche, in particolare quelle dei primi anni della scuola primaria. D’altra parte, per quanto riguarda le questioni macrostrutturali della pratica pedagogica, si è creato un clima di intenso intreccio, per cui gli insegnanti erano consapevoli delle traiettorie degli studenti e gli studenti trovavano piacevole il loro approccio pedagogico.
