According to NBC Miami news channel, there have been several reports of abuse within the Miami Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation Department. In 2022 alone, over 398 reports of abuse by inmates were filed, yet none of the staff were terminated in the last three years. This lack of accountability for staff members has allowed the problem to persist, with only 33 officers being disciplined but not terminated. The jails are also 98% full as of 2022, which further exacerbates the issue.
