Uno dei fenomeni sociali più ricorrenti della nostra civiltà contemporanea, nel contesto urbano, è il problema della tutela dell’ambiente, minacciato da una grande quantità di inquinamento, tra cui i rifiuti solidi urbani. A Cotonou, soprattutto nei quartieri situati nella periferia del mercato di Dantokpa, la gestione dei rifiuti solidi urbani costituisce un problema rilevante, nonostante le numerose iniziative di risanamento intraprese da diversi attori. È quindi necessario chiarire le ragioni della persistenza delle condizioni insalubri a Cotonou, nel sesto distretto. Tale questione è stata oggetto del presente studio.
