Es innegable el papel predominante que tiene elinglés hoy, actual lingua franca y, sin duda, lengua de intercambio para la ciencia, la divulgación, el trasvase cultural y, por consiguiente, base y herramienta sobre la que construir la convivencia pacífica de los pueblos. En este contexto, surge el concepto de inglés para fines sociales y de cooperación (IFSyC), complementario a las vertientes de los enfoques de inglés general y de inglés para fines específicos. IFSyC tiene como objetivo fundamental el desarrollo y la creación de materiales educativos en los que se aborden temáticas con impacto social (cooperación al desarrollo, género, soberanía alimentaria, inmigración y crisis de los refugiados, solidaridad, medio ambiente, etc.), con la necesaria actualización y rigor científicos, conducentes a la mejora del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje del inglés como lengua extranjera. 10
