Information need is the essential state of anything that is needed as information. From environment to environment, from discipline to discipline, even from age to age, the function requires information related to the user’s educational background, amount of experience, and field related to the function performed. These variables can affect a person’s interest in the type of information he or she seeks and how he or she acquires information. Information satisfaction is the ultimate goal of information-seeking behaviour. The present study is intended to investigate the requirements and use pattern of information by the gram panchayat members of Burdwan Sadar (North) Subdivision of Purba Bardhaman district, West Bengal, in terms of local-level planning and local governance. Elected gram panchayat members are more conscious of local problems and can focus better on these problems than any outside official. People also face social distance from the elected representatives, which leads to more involvement in decentralised planning and local governance. The complete study has been presented in six chapters.
