A indústria automóvel surgiu como um importante contribuinte para o PIB da Índia desde 1991. Após a política de liberalização, as restrições foram reduzidas, levando à entrada de alguns players globais na indústria automóvel indiana. Isso alterou significativamente o cenário da fabricação de automóveis e a estrutura da indústria. Isso tem implicações para a conduta e o desempenho da indústria no país. O presente estudo foi realizado para estimar e analisar o crescimento, o desempenho e as estratégias de marketing da indústria automóvel na Índia. O âmbito do estudo limita-se às empresas de origem indiana que produzem veículos de quatro rodas e superiores. O estudo selecionou cinco fabricantes de automóveis, ou seja, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ashok Leyland e Hindustan Motors. O estudo deve ser muito útil para as empresas automóveis, investigadores, estudantes e para diferentes agências e profissionais envolvidos no marketing e na análise de mercado.
