La laringectomia totale è un intervento mutilante a più livelli. Il nostro studio quantifica le reazioni automatiche di un campione casuale di popolazione alla mutilazione della voce. La riabilitazione della voce rappresenta una parte significativa delle difficoltà quotidiane di un laringectomizzato. Lo studio degli aspetti stigmatizzanti che la caratterizzano permette di ipotizzare una spiegazione sociale di questa emarginazione per meglio comprenderne le ripercussioni psicologiche e comportamentali. Questi dati hanno anche lo scopo di aiutare i pazienti, le loro famiglie e i loro assistenti a comprendere meglio il funzionamento di questo stigma, in modo da poterlo comprendere e combattere.
