L’éducation des personnes ayant des besoins spéciaux vise essentiellement à intégrer ses élèves dans la société, en les rendant socialement participatifs. L’éducation spécialisée est déterminante dans le processus de stimulation initiale des personnes atteintes du syndrome de Down, et il appartient à l’enseignant des classes spécialisées de travailler avec ses élèves sur des pratiques qui leur permettent de développer des compétences pour les activités quotidiennes, telles que : participer aux activités familiales, développer leur droit à la citoyenneté et même exercer une activité professionnelle. Des précautions particulières doivent être prises afin de faciliter et de permettre un meilleur rendement et un meilleur développement éducatif des élèves. Les enfants qui fréquentent l’APAE de la municipalité de Santa Cruz das Palmeiras/SP présentent des progrès socio-éducatifs qui satisfont les parents, les proches et les amis des personnes atteintes du syndrome.
